  • D1 3/4" D2 3/4" OAL 4" LOC 1-1/2" Radius .030” or .060" 4 flute Ballnose and Radius End Mills perform exceptionally well in most ferrous materials. They are also used with great success on Stainless Steel when coated with InoxoCon. They are intended for applications using Trochoidal or High-Speed Milling operations and feature a 40° Helix. AlTiN offers very good performance in harder materials and is good in high speed milling operations. For improved tool life and performance we recommend FerroCon coating for all steels and steel alloys especially tool steel. For Stainless Steel milling we recommend InoxoCon. In the materials they are made to operate in the FerroCon and InoxoCon will dramatically improve the capability of the end mills over the standard coatings.

Why the 40° Helix Angle is a Big Deal in Milling

Think of the helix angle as the tilt of a spiral staircase your cutting edge moves down – a 40° angle means the tool slices through material smoothly and efficiently. This helps chip removal and reduces vibration, which translates to better surface finish and longer tool life. Imagine trying to peel a banana in one long strip versus tiny chunks; the 40° helix is like that continuous strip, making the cut cleaner and easier on your tooling.

Installation and Maintenance Guide

Setting It Up

  • Ensure your machine is compatible with a 3/4" shank diameter tool holder.
  • Securely tighten the end mill in the collet to prevent slippage.
  • Calibrate your spindle speed based on the material and coating.
  • Use suggested coatings: FerroCon for steels, InoxoCon for stainless steel.
  • Adjust your feed rate to match high-speed or trochoidal milling techniques.

Keeping It Going

  • Inspect the cutting edges regularly for wear and chipping.
  • Clean the tool after each use to prevent metal buildup.
  • Store tools in a dry place to avoid corrosion.
  • Reapply or switch coatings when performance drops.
  • Maintain your machine’s coolant system for optimal tool life.

Buying Guide: Choosing the Right High-Performance End Mill

  • Need help choosing? Consider material compatibility first—do you mostly cut steel, stainless steel, or other metals?
  • Not sure what fits best? Match the shank diameter with your tool holder to ensure secure fittings.
  • Looking for speed or finish? Choose the right flute count and helix angle to balance surface smoothness and cutting speed.
  • Want longer tool life? Select appropriate coatings like FerroCon or InoxoCon based on your materials.
  • Need special shapes? Ballnose or radius end mills are perfect for contouring and 3D work.
  • Working with hard materials? Look for tools with AlTiN coatings designed for high heat and speed.
