They are also used with great success on Stainless Steel when coated with InoxoCon. They are intended for applications using Trochoidal or High-Speed Milling operations and feature a 40° Helix. AlTiN offers very good performance in harder materials and is good in high speed milling operations. For improved tool life and performance we recommend FerroCon coating for all steels and steel alloys especially tool steel. For Stainless Steel milling we recommend InoxoCon. In the materials they are made to operate in the FerroCon and InoxoCon will dramatically improve the capability of the end mills over the standard coatings.

Case Study: Real Business, Real Results

Chicago, IL – A metal fabrication shop wanted to upgrade their tooling for tougher stainless steel parts.

"Switching to these 4 Flute Ballnose End Mills coated with InoxoCon has drastically reduced our tool wear. The finish on the parts is cleaner, and we’re running jobs faster than before."

Jessica Murray – Production Manager

Increased cutting efficiency by 35% and extended tool life by 50%, reducing downtime and costs.

How the 40° Helix Angle Enhances Your Milling

Think of the helix angle as the spiral twist of your end mill's cutting edges. At 40°, it’s angled just right to help clear away metal chips quickly while keeping the cutting smooth. Imagine slicing a soft loaf of bread with a serrated knife versus a dull one—the serration helps remove crumbs and keeps your cut cleaner. That’s what the 40° helix does: it reduces chatter and heat buildup, letting you mill faster and with better finish quality. So your machines run cooler, and your parts come out flawless.

Installation and Maintenance Guide

Setting It Up

  • Ensure the end mill shank is clean before inserting into the collet.
  • Secure the tool firmly in your milling machine chuck or holder.
  • Verify that the tool length matches your program settings.
  • Start with recommended spindle speeds and feed rates for your material.
  • Use coolant or air blast to maintain temperature and clear chips.

Keeping It Going

  • Regularly inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping.
  • Clean the tool and holder after each use to prevent buildup.
  • Reapply coatings or replace tools when performance drops.
  • Store tools in a dry, organized place to prevent damage.
  • Calibrate your machine to maintain precise cutting tolerances.

Buying Guide: Choosing the Right High-Performance End Mills

  • Need help choosing? Consider the material you’re milling: ferrous or stainless requires different coatings.
  • Not sure what fits best? Match the tool size to your machine’s spindle and your cutting depth needs.
  • Looking for durability? Coatings like FerroCon and InoxoCon significantly improve tool life and performance.
  • Wondering about speed? Higher helix angles boost chip evacuation and allow faster cutting in high-speed milling.
  • Balancing finish and roughing? Ballnose end mills are your go-to for smooth contours, while radius end mills add strength for heavier cuts.
  • Updating your toolkit? Choose carbide over HSS for tougher jobs and longer service life.
