They are also used with great success on Stainless Steel when coated with InoxoCon. They are intended for applications using Trochoidal or High-Speed Milling operations and feature a 40° Helix. AlTiN offers very good performance in harder materials and is good in high speed milling operations. For improved tool life and performance we recommend FerroCon coating for all steels and steel alloys especially tool steel. For Stainless Steel milling we recommend InoxoCon. In the materials they are made to operate in the FerroCon and InoxoCon will dramatically improve the capability of the end mills over the standard coatings.

Why the 40° Helix Angle Makes a Difference

The 40° helix angle on these end mills isn’t just a number—it’s a carefully chosen design to ensure a smoother chip flow and reduce the cutting forces your machine feels. Think of it like slicing bread instead of smashing through it; the higher helix gently removes material, which means less wear on your cutter and a cleaner finish on your part. This angle also helps when working at high speeds, keeping vibrations low and your cuts precise.

Installation and Maintenance Guide

Setting It Up

  • Ensure the collet or chuck matches the 3/8" shank diameter for a secure hold.
  • Clean the tool and holder before installation to prevent slippage.
  • Check tool alignment for accurate cutting paths.
  • Start with recommended speed and feed settings for ferrous metals.
  • Apply proper coolant or lubrication when machining stainless steel for best results.

Keeping It Going

  • Inspect the cutting edges regularly for wear or chipping.
  • Clean the tool after each use to remove built-up material.
  • Reapply or switch to FerroCon/InoxoCon coatings if performance drops.
  • Store the end mills in a dry, secure location to avoid damage.
  • Monitor machine vibrations and tool chatter during operation to catch issues early.

Buying Guide: Choosing the Right High-Performance End Mills

  • Need help choosing? Consider the material you'll be cutting—ferrous, stainless, or alloys affect your coating choice.
  • Not sure what fits best? Check the shank diameter matches your machine's collet or chuck size.
  • Wondering about tool life? Choose coatings like FerroCon or InoxoCon for longer-lasting performance in specific materials.
  • Thinking about milling style? For trochoidal or high-speed milling, a 4-flute with a high helix like this tool excels.
  • Curious about finish quality? Ballnose and radius types deliver smoother contours for complex parts.
  • Unsure on tool length? Match overall length and cut length to your project requirements for optimal control.
